Welcome to the chronicles of Maine Coon Gunner, the orange classic tabby kitten who arrived from The Aurora Borealis litter (born December 5th, 2025) and immediately turned Suzanne’s household upside down. You may already know Leni — the fluffy-tailed king who rules with velvet paws and an iron nap schedule. But Gunner? Gunner doesn’t read the rulebook. He sleeps on the bed, hunts everything that moves, and somehow convinced Leni to retreat to the foot of the mattress. This is his story, told in his own bold, purring, slightly chaotic voice. Long may the orange boss reign.
The Arrival
The transport box opened.
Sunlight. New smells. And him.
Leni.
I had heard whispers about this cat during the journey from The Aurora Borealis litter. A king, they said. A majestic Maine Coon who rules Suzanne’s household with velvet paws and an iron nap schedule. Famous for a tail so long, so impossibly fluffy, that it has its own gravitational pull.
Suzanne set me down on the living room rug. I was small. Orange. Unimpressed.
Leni approached slowly. His tail rose behind him like a feathered banner—a glorious plume that could double as a winter scarf for a small child. He puffed it to maximum fluff. A intimidation tactic, I realized. Very dramatic. Very royal.
I did not hiss. I did not puff my own (admittedly less impressive) tail.
I simply walked to the center of the rug, sat down, and blinked slowly.
Leni froze. His tail twitched once. Then twice.
And then — he retreated.
Not in panic. In calculation. A king does not flee. A king repositions.
But I knew what I had just done.
Suzanne, sweet loyal Suzanne, whispered to her phone: “Oh no… Gunner’s the boss.”
Yes.
The throne now has a new occupant. And that magnificent, ridiculous, feather-duster of a tail?
It now swishes nervously whenever I am near.
I am Gunner. I am orange. I do not roar.
I simply arrive.
